I bow my head in a guided meditation. The white light I see in my heart grows and glows, blessing and cleansing me as it fills my physical and spiritual bodies. I am smiling, inside and out, high on the energy of the evening and my own divinity.
Then another light is called into the center of the circle, small at first but growing and glowing, a traveler from another realm. I see him in all his radiant glory, an angel, his face still and benevolent, coming to join us for the initiation. Some would call such a being a messenger of God but to me, at that moment, he WAS God, as I understand him. The light of love, the "I AM", pure spirit. I was enraptured.
As he stood before us in holy silence, a totally irreverent thought flashed through my mind. I smirked.
And that glorious being, that symbol of pure white perfection, God ... smiled at me. He chuckled as he shook his head and said, "I knew YOU wouldn't be able to take this seriously." Then he held out his hand and he asked me to dance. So I did. I danced freely in my soul as my body swayed in the chair. We danced together and apart as we laughed for the pure joy of laughing. We charged up the circle with our white light. We charged up the room. We charged up the house and then danced outside in order to bring light to the streets. We took the hands of strangers and they danced with us, adding their light to ours and filling the entire town with pure love.
Then the county, then the state and the nation and the world. All of the people were dancing and singing the chorus of one of my favorite hymns:
Dance, then, wherever you may be.
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be.
I shall lead you all in the Dance, said he.
Then my angelic partner began to dance with the planet herself, a comical and wondrous sight indeed. God and Gaia cutting a rug. I imagined dancing with a planet or two myself and began searching for a partner when our meditation guide threw me a curve.
"...filling the universe with pure, white light."
I wanted to see the universe full of that dancing light but I couldn't move my consciousness back far enough to observe such a thing. I had understood the words "the universe" to mean everything that is, was or will be, the sum total of creation, God, and I couldn't be anywhere the universe wasn't. I felt myself trying and failing to find a spot outside of the universe but everywhere I went, the universe was there too. Then it hit me, "Wait, there is no outside to 'the Universe'." In order to experience God one must be inside for, if what you are experiencing is truly God, there is no other place. God is light and dark, peace and terror, rich and poor.
Then, my celestial friend spoke to me again, "When there is no outside it must be inside". So I returned to my body, looked into my heart and there it was, the universe, filled with light.
That's the Goddess. The one who breaks the rules. The one who dances and laughs and flows and creates her way through life. She is fearless for, in truth, there is nothing to fear. There is nothing that is not Divine. God gives us Thou Shalt Not's, Goddess gives us Thou Shall's.
Thou Shall dance, Thou Shall sing, Thou Shall laugh, Thou Shall eat, Thou Shall travel. Thou Shall do what whatever Thou wants because, whatever it is, it's what she wants too. To be alive, to be free. To dance.
When we learn to express our true selves, we experience the Goddess. When we balance the limitlessness of Goddess with the structure of God, we will truly achieve inner peace.
